The Ultimate EZ Smart Plus Diabetes Monitoring System is a 3rd generation biosensor technology meter presented by Ez Smart.

As it’s the improved version of the Ez Smart meter, after few months I decided to upgrade to the Smart Plus one. First thing that I didn’t understand is the very small print of the manual. It’s so small that I couldn’t read it and the directions are not what I would call ‘precise’. Finally I had to call the support number and I had the manual mailed for free. I was so happy to find such professional support operator that I almost forgot all the trouble I had with the manual.

Second issue is that the manual isn’t that detailed. It says not to reuse the strips but I had to figure out by myself that I have to discard the lancet after use. But once I started using it, I loved it.

I get a fast 8 seconds result for a little blood sample (1,5 mL).

The device’s marketing line is that it’s really cheap, even with the strips price included. It’s true, most meters require expensive strips which have almost the same price as the meter itself. Personally I used to reduce my glucose checking to 2 times a day instead of 4 times as the doctor said. Thanks to this meter, I can test my glucose as much as recommended.

The meter works on the easy push button operation. It’s really simple without all those complicated functions. I really like how quick and easy it is. The chip is a self-calibrating one. Therefore I don’t have to worry about the accuracy of the numbers.

Thanks to the self testing diary, I can keep track of my glucose readings. By averaging them I became more attentive to my health and needs.

To be honest I had to get used to that after all the glucose meters I used for many years. I also got used to having big size glucose meters. The unit of this one is so smooth and small that I had to get used to handling it carefully so that it doesn’t jump of my hand.

Although the strips are a bit expensive and not included in the package, they are available everywhere and I don’t have to worry about running out of them like before. I also think the cost issue is the same with any glucose meter.

Opening the package I found out that it doesn’t include all the accessories, but I easily found all of them. Getting this glucose meter made me have less things to think about; like remembering the time for the next test and trying to find a way so that the lancing would get less painful. After so many years of using glucose meters, those small things mean a lot. Such a small sample size makes it easy to take the glucose meter everywhere and a very easy testing on the go. I can use my glucose meter even in my car.

I love this glucose meter because I don’t have to stand up in the middle of the night looking for a lamp or some light. Thanks to its test light and backlight and its large screen, I can use it even in the dark! And I get my result in 5 seconds only.

After over a year of using the Ultra One Touch glucose meter, I decided to upgrade to the UltraSmart one. That’s why I keep comparing both since I got used to the old one and was really satisfied with it.

There’s no doubt the UltraSmart glucose meter is the best meter I ever had. I can spend hours flipping through the menu and the battery still is running strong. A part from being fast and easy to use, this glucose meter is like a little health diary. It gives me track of insulin, carbohydrates,fats , proteins…. This meter is really an all in one system. I could even call it an ‘electronic nurse’, it tells me about my weight, height, blood pressure and cholesterol. OneTouch UltraSmart Blood Glucose Monitoring System helps me being much more attentive to my health and needs and it even reminds me of my doctor visit time!

Despite the fact that I like this glucose meter a lot, there are two details that I didn’t really appreciate. First one is the help section in the menu, it just says to visit the website for any help. It would have been better if OneTouch didn’t include that section in the menu. Especially with the great and free phone assistance they provide 24/7.

Second thing is the case. It’s a little firmer then the Ultra one which makes the test strip tube location a bit horrendous. Also the positions of the ridge and the loop are completely different from the previous in the Ultra case. I guess I like more the old one just because I got used to it for over then a year.

Regardless of those two little details, I just love this meter. I don’t really like committing into a logbook neither spending money on a proprietary interface cable. Thanks to the great PDA functionality, I don’t need a logbook or a cable.

The menu offers lots of features like trends and other factors affecting diabetes. I like it so much that I can’t stop flipping through the menu! This meter is perfect for insulin dependent people because it automatically collects and organizes results into useful charts.

The thing I really like about this meter is the backlight, I can easily use it in places where light is usually absent like theaters.

As a recently diagnosed Type 2 diabetic subject, I had only one thing in mind; find my first glucose meter. The ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus Meter Kit is one of the biggest meters available in the market. The fact that it hurts less than other meters has apparently something to do with vibration. This Accu Chek meter just gets in and out the skin, while others hit and wiggles it.

The reason why I think that this meter is unbeatable is that the all in one system makes testing easy at any time of the day or night. Even if I am half asleep in the middle of the night, I do the 3 clicks and I have my number. Testing with this glucose meter is like a breeze, it gives possibility of alternate site testing.

The other reason is that I don’t need to have a watch now. Since I have got the ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus Meter Kit, all I have to do is turn it on and I can see my previous blood glucose reading in addition to the date and time.

I have heard many people complaining about vials of test strips scattering everywhere in the floor because they always get them accidently knocked-over. Well, I wish they could all use this glucose meter because I can turn it on as many times as I want without any test strip coming out!

Compared to other glucose meters available in the market, this one has smaller strip barrels. But I don’t have to worry because there’s only one way to load them. If I can’t load them, means I am doing it the wrong way. I am really happy I bought this glucose meter as my first one, it has everything to make me feel comfortable about my diabetes.
